 OBIETTIVI DELL'ESPERIMENTO RM123
A first principle approach to phenomenology with Lattice QCD

Physical grounds : Accurate non perturbative calculations of the
hadronic matrix elements, relevant to precision tests of the
Standard Model, can in principle be obtained by the methods of
lattice QCD. Over the years lattice results on some of these
quantities have been obtained by adopting several approximations:
quenching, small physical
volumes, coarse lattice spacings, heavy quarks treated by means of
effective field theories, etc. Thanks to the advances achieved in
the last few years in this field, we are now in a position to
perform, for example, unquenched simulations with Nf=2 and more
dynamical flavors with pions as light as 300 MeV, close to the
chiral regime of QCD. Early physics results have already been
obtained by researchers participating in this project.
Although at present we have improved our control of some of the
characteristic of lattice QCD, much more remains to be done. Our
project aims at investigating these theoretical problems in order to
further improve the accuracy of the results, leading to state of the
art lattice computations which are close to physical QCD.
