  MAGIC-5 EXPERIMENT, RESPONSIBLE: Pier Giorgio Cerello    

MAGIC-5 aims at the development of Computer Assisted Algorithms for the analysis of medical digital images (mammograms, lung CT scans, brain PET scans) adn at their use in a distributed framework based on GRID Services.

Therefore, there are four research mainstreams:

- development of algorithms for the detection of microcalcification clusters and massive lesions in digitized and digital mammograms; implementation of a CAD station to be used in hospitals that are members of the collaboration

- development of algorithms for the analysis of lung CT scans and for the detection of cancer nodules

- implementation of the SPM algorithm for the early diagnosis of the Alzheimer's disease in a distributed framework making use of the PROOF system

- configuration of a bio-medical Virtual Organisation on computing and storage resources that must be located in hospitals, so as to allow interactive access to the whole database of images from any location in the system and interactive image analysis where the image is stored, even if remote to the user requesting the task.


 GOALS OF MAGIC-5 EXPERIMENT  
Development of algorithms for the interactive analysis of distributed medical images in the field of:
- lung CT
- diagnosis of the Alzheimer's disease
Implementation of a prototype which, based on GRID services, allows the configuration of a "Virtual Organisation" in the participating hospitals
