Ab-initio approaches to nuclear structure have made considerable progress in the recent years. The availability of accurate two- and three-nucleon interactions derived from Chiral EFT allows theorists to systematically assess uncertainties in their predictions. The development of renormalization group techniques to soften such interactions has improved the overall convergence of the calculations. As a result, ab-initio techniques are extending their domain of applicability towards medium-mass nuclei. There remain however some important open questions: How can we reliably tackle open-shell systems and nuclei close to the drip-line? How can ab-initio techniques connect with other approaches, which are applied over the whole nuclear chart? How can they help in studying nuclear reactions? The talk will review the state of the art of different ab-initio methods and discuss their new achievement, current frontiers and open questions. Particular attention will be given to the recent developments on the extension of Green's functions techniques to open-shell systems.
