LNGS: F. GAO - STATUS OF THE XENON DARK MATTER SEARCH EXPERIMENT

The XENON experiment employs dual-phase xenon time projection chambers to detect elastic scattering between dark matter and xenon atoms at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Italy. The current generation of XENON program, XENON1T, is the largest dark matter detector to date containing 2-ton of xenon as the target material with a world recorded electronic recoil background rate of ~80 events/(ton*yr*keVee). Using XENON1T data accumulated from Nov 2016 to Feb 2018, the XENON collaboration performed several world’s most sensitive dark matter searches and placed the most stringent limits in a wide mass range. Results from these dark matter searches as well as prospective of neutrinoless double beta decay analysis will be covered. The next phase of XENON program, XENONnT, is under construction at LNGS and will improve the sensitivity of dark matter search by another order of magnitude. The status of the XENONnT experiment will also be covered. --- Fei Gao Columbia University USA
