FI: ANISOTROPIC STATES FROM SMEARED BRANES - CARLOS HOYOS
SEZIONE DI FIRENZE
Anisotropic states may be relevant in a variety of strongly coupled systems, including strongly correlated electrons and the dense matter in the interior of neutron stars. As a starting point to study these kind of systems using holographic dualities, we construct a family of holographic duals to anisotropic states in a strongly coupled gauge theory taking into account the backreaction of smeared D5 branes in the background produced by D3 branes. We find two possible behaviors: boomerang flows and IR fixed points with Lifshitz-like scaling symmetry. We study some of the properties of the anisotropic states along the RG flow, in particular the montonicity of suitably defined c-functions. (Carlos Hoyos, University of Oviedo)
