The new location of Infn Pisa section, Via F. Buonarroti, 2 (Building C of ex-Marzotto area) will be inaugurated next Wednesday, October 22nd. The ceremony, open to journalists, will begin at 9. 00 am with the salutation of Rino Castaldi, director of Infn Pisa section, and Arnaldo Stefanini, director of the Physics Department. Furthermore there will be the contribution of Paolo Fontanelli, mayor of Pisa, Enzo Iarocci, Infn President, Marco Pasquali, Pisa University Chancellor, Aldo Frediani, ex- pro-vice Chancellor for trade building of Pisa University, Sandra Leone and Alejandro Kievsky, representative of Infn Researchers. In conclusion there will be the participation of Giorgio Bellettini, Carlo Bemporad and Adriano Di Giacomo, Infn researchers and professors at Pisa University who will illustrate the scientific activities of the section.

Pisa section is one of the first sections of Infn and plays an important role in the history of Italian Physics: it was born just later the institution of Infn (1951) on initiative of the physicist Marcello Conversi coming from Rome and soon reached by Giorgio Salvini.
“Since the 70s experimental physicists of Infn moved to a centre in San Piero a Grado, far from the Physics Department, where remained whereas theoretical physicists. In San Piero we had a very positive experience, but we missed contact with students, who met difficulties to reach us, and with our theoretical colleagues. The new location in the centre of the ex Marzotto industry not only gives us modern and wide spaces, but also enables us to join again the Physics Department. From a cultural point of view this is for us a very important fact and represents also a promise for a more fruitful interaction with the new generation of physicists”, says Rino Castaldi, director of Infn Pisa section.

“The Pisa section has always played a role of primary importance in the promotion of advanced research in Pisa. Let us think about the great initiative Virgo for the detection of gravitational waves, let us think about the other international initiatives of Physics of elementary particles, and about the numerous technological relapses on the territory, such as the development of computer nets, medical and electronic devices”, explains Arnaldo Stefanini, director of the Physics department and Infn researcher, “the new location has the right extension and the infrastructures to assure the increase of research at an excellent level, even in the new bound of the Physics of Particles in the Space. With the decision to allocate this structure at the Infn Pisa section, Pisa University has demonstrated again to be sensitive to the requests of research”.
