Call for applicationsThe US Department of Energy (DoE) and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics - Italy (INFN) announce the 2009 edition of the Summer Exchange Program, dedicated to the exchange of US and Italian students in science and engineering. INFN, one of the leading organization worldwide promoting basic scientific reasearch, is involved with cutting-edge activities in all major INFN-DoE areas of interest: Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Theoretical Physics and Detector Physics (see http://www.infn.it/brochure/ing/). The present call for applications is addressed to US students who are willing to join a INFN research team operating in Italy, for approximately 10 weeks starting anytime between June 1st and November 30th, 2009 . Positions are available at the following INFN sites, as described in this table:
Candidates must be enrolled as students at a US university and they must have begun, at the time of application, at least the third year of a US University curriculum in physics, engineering or computing science. Grants amount to Euro 5000 for covering travel and living expenses at an INFN Site. They are subjected to a reduction, due to Italian income taxes, which is directly applied by the INFN Administration. The taxes wil be calculated on the net amount of the grant (i.e. total amount deducted of documented travel and accommodation expenses). Participants must hold an appropriate Student Visa issued by an Italian Consulate in US (see http://www.esteri.it/visti/).
