Yesterday, May 27, the final event of the first edition of DialogAI was held in Rome. The project is promoted by the National Research Council (CNR), the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) to bring students closer to science and the conscious use of artificial intelligence through theatrical language.
The DialogAI project was created with the aim of bringing new generations closer to science and the history of science through a creative and conscious use of artificial intelligence. Secondary school students are asked to design and stage imaginary science-themed dialogues between major figures from science, philosophy and culture, using AI tools as support for research, writing and narrative construction. The dialogues, with a maximum duration of ten minutes, may involve scientists from different historical periods, as well as philosophers, artists, key cultural figures or fictional characters.
This year, 60 groups took part in DialogAI, each composed of three students, from 11 Italian schools. Of these, eight groups were selected to compete during the final event and perform their dialogues live in theatrical form, giving voice to original exchanges between major figures of human thought and bringing to life ideas and insights that have marked the history of scientific and cultural knowledge.
The jury, composed of researchers from the participating institutions, awarded first place to the dialogue “The Symposium of Synapses”, dedicated to the theme of the human brain, by the group “Serial thinkers”, composed of Claudia Colamarino, Patrizio Ciaravolo and Sabrina Pagliaro from the “A. Nobel” Scientific High School in Torre del Greco (Naples). Second place went to “Last Orbit” by “2 Centimetres per Second” with Emanuele Carnevali, Sara Nagni and Alessia Bartoli from the Classical-Linguistic High School “M.T. Cicerone” in Frascati (Rome), while the dialogue “The Masks of War” by the group “The Daltons”, composed of Rinaldo Fracassa, Giuseppe Ettorre and Mattia Marinelli from the “A. Einstein” Scientific High School in Teramo, placed third.
The DialogAI project:
The initiative aims to develop skills in creative writing, research and public speaking, while at the same time promoting a critical and responsible use of artificial intelligence. DialogAI seeks to show how AI can become a tool capable of stimulating curiosity, imagination and learning, without ever replacing critical thinking, source verification and adherence to scientific content.
