GGI PremioCeolin 2021

The ceremony of the 2021 Milla Baldo Ceolin Prize to the best female graduates in theoretical physics was held on 21 October, in the Villa Galileo in Arcetri, Florence. This year, the prize was awarded to Angelica Albertini (University of Turin), Chiara Calascibetta (Tor Vergata University of Rome), Marienza Caldarola (University of Padua), Sofia Maggioni (Milan Bicocca University), and Viviana Viggiano (University of Bari).

The award, established by INFN and conferred by the GGI (Galileo Galilei Institute), INFN National Centre dedicated to higher education in theoretical physics, is annually awarded for the best master’s theses to female researchers who work in the field of theoretical physics on issues of interest to the INFN National Scientific Committee IV, i.e. in field and string theory, the phenomenology of elementary particles, nuclear and hadron physics, mathematical methods, astroparticle physics and cosmology, statistical physics and applied field theory. The prize, which is intended to encourage young women researchers joining this sector of physics, is named after a great scientist, a researcher of international fame, for a long time the director of the INFN Padua Division and the first woman to hold a chair at the University of Padua: Milla Baldo Ceolin, who conducted research in the field of particle physics, working on the accelerators of Berkeley and Argonne in the United States, the accelerator of ITEP in Moscow, Russia, and the reactor of ILL in Grenoble, France, in addition to the CERN accelerator machines.
