Research

Research is the main mission of INFN and, in particular, the study of the fundamental components of matter and theoretical and experimental research in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear and astro particle physics. Much of the scientific research activities arecoordinated by the five National Scientific Committees and are carried out in close cooperation with universities and other scientific institutions, both in Italy and abroad. To achieve its scientific objectives, INFN relies on a community of approx. 6,000 people that includes researchers, both employees and associates, research technologists, as well as technical and administrative staff. The experiments in which the Institute is involved are characterised by scientific collaborations consisting of male and female researchers from institutes and laboratories worldwide. They are very important examples of true international cooperation in which young people can acquire vital experience and knowledge. In this context, INFN groups participate with outstanding contributions and withpositions of responsibility in the highest decision-making levels of experiments.
