Visita della Accademia Reale Svedese delle Scienze ai LNGS E LNF

18 November 2024

On 14 and 15 November, a delegation from the Physics Class of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences visited the INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratories (LNGS) and the INFN Frascati National Laboratories (LNF) during a four-day trip to some of the Italian leading scientific institutions and facilities. These visits were sponsored by Giorgio Parisi, Nobel Laureate in Physics in 2021 and a member of the Physics Class. The delegation was welcomed by the directors of the two laboratories, Ezio Previtali at LNGS and Paola Gianotti at LNF, and the INFN President Antonio Zoccoli, as well as by representatives of the researchers, who accompanied the guests on their visit, also going over the scientific history of the Laboratories, and the main research fields of research in which they are engaged in international collaborations.

The Academy, founded in 1739 with the aim of promoting science, manages seven research institutes in Sweden and awards the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry and Economics, among others. The Physics Class includes distinguished scientists from various fields of Physics, some of whom serve on the committee that awards the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The visit to INFN Gran Sasso and Frascati National Laboratories were two stops on the scientific itinerary that took the Physics Class to some of Rome’s major science sites and that had begun at Sapienza University in Rome, and continued at the Accademia dei Lincei, the Pontifical Academy, and the Enrico Fermi Science Centre and Museum in Rome.
