Science Journalism and Communication: Call Opens for the Erice School

The call for applications for the 14th edition of the International School of Science Communication and Journalism of Erice opens today, April 13, 2026. Each year, the school offers 20 scholarships for young journalists and communicators, and this year it is dedicated to the theme “Energy for a Sustainable Future.”

The school will take place from October 11 to 13, 2026, in Erice, Sicily, and is organised by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics INFN in collaboration with Springer Nature at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture.

The application deadline is May 17. The school will be held entirely in English.

The call for the 2026 edition of the Erice International School of Science Communication and journalism is now open. The school awards 20 scholarships for young science journalists and communicators, 15 are reserved for applicants living in an EU country and 5 for foreign students living outside the EU.  The 2026 edition’s theme is “ENERGY FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE”.

The Erice International School of Science Communication and journalism is a INFN short school held yearly at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, in Erice (Sicily), in Italy. It is dedicated to young science journalists and communicators from all over Europe and beyond. The program is based on lectures, practical sessions, and other activities, dedicated to a different scientific theme each year, and held by researchers, science journalist and communication experts.
The school is organised by the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics INFN in collaboration with Springer Nature.

Scholarships

The school offers 15 scholarships for applicants living in an EU country (fee of the school, stay fully covered and economy class flight to Italy covered up to 500 euro+ transfer from Palermo airport only) and 5 scholarships for applicants from non-Eu (stay fully covered / trip at their own expenses). The call is published here.

The school is taking place from October 11th until October 13th in Erice, in Sicily (Italy). Accommodations are available from October 10th until October 14th; the program starts on the morning of October 11th (Sunday).
