February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the international day dedicated to women and girls in science. The INFN takes part with numerous initiatives, events, and meetings held throughout Italy and online.
The day was established in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote the full and equal participation of women and girls in science, particularly in education, training, employment, and decision-making processes.
INFN joins the initiative with a campaign on its Instagram and Facebook social media channels — #WomenInScience — in which other major international laboratories, such as CERN, will also participate through the publication of short videos. The stories of six women scientists will be shared, each at a different stage of her professional journey: from a university student to a member of INFN’s Executive Board. The protagonists will talk about their paths, the most significant moments, the challenges they faced, and the achievements along the way.
The day also coincides with another important scientific anniversary: the tenth anniversary of the discovery of gravitational waves, announced on February 11, 2016.
