INFN FOR THE MEDIA

The Communications office coordinates and manages the institutional communication activities, press office, and relations with national and international media. In particular, it drafts press releases, news, content for the press, it monitors and analyses the daily press review, and publishes the monthly INFN newsletter. It takes care of producing and managing the Institute’s website www.infn.it. It manages INFN’s institutional accounts on the following channels: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X.

New images from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration have revealed a dynamic environment with changing polarisation patterns in the magnetic fields of the supermassive black hole M87*. As shown in the images, while M87* magnetic fields appeared to spiral in one direction in 2017, they settled in 2018 and reversed direction in 2021. The cumulative effects of this polarisation change over time suggest that M87* and its surrounding environment are constantly evolving.
